Pfizer says high-dose Lipitor lowers risk of heart attack, stroke by 32%

BOSTON, Apr. 21, 2008 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) -- Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) Inc. Monday said results from a five-year study showed that Lipitor 80 mg reduced the risk of heart attack and stroke by 32% in patients who have heart disease and chronic kidney disease, compared with patients taking the 10 mg dose of Lipitor.

Pfizer said both doses of Lipitor were well tolerated.

'The results of this analysis complement the large body of evidence from multiple clinical trials demonstrating the cardiovascular benefits of Lipitor,' the New York-based drugmaker said.

Shares of Pfizer fell 23 cents to $20.25.
