Autodesk, Inc. is a design software and services company, offering customers productive business solutions through various technology products and services. The company serves variety of customers in the field of architecture, engineering and construction; manufacturing; and digital media and entertainment markets. Autodesk software products are sold globally, both directly to customers and through a network of resellers and distributors. It operates through four reportable business segments: Platform Solutions and Emerging Business; Architecture, Engineering and Construction; Manufacturing; and Media and Entertainment. The Platform Solutions and Emerging Business segment products include AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD Map 3D. The AutoCAD provides a platform for its developer partners to build custom solutions for a range of diverse design-oriented markets. Its software provides digital tools that can be used independently and in conjunction with other specific applications in fields ranging from construction to manufacturing, civil engineering and process plant design. The AutoCAD LT includes document sharing capability without the need for software customization or certain advanced functionality. Autodesk Revit products collect information about a building project and allow this information to be coordinated across all other representations of the project. Its products include AutoCAD Revit Architecture Suite, AutoCAD Revit MEP Suite and AutoCAD Revit Structure Suite. The AutoCAD Civil 3D provides surveying, design, analysis, and documentation solution for civil engineering, including land development, transportation, and environmental projects. Its Architecture software includes powerful Architecture industry-specific tools to gain efficiency and improve coordination. The AutoCAD Map 3D provides direct access to data needed for infrastructure planning, design and management activities. The Manufacturing segment provides manufacturers in automotive and transportation, industrial machinery, consumer products and building products with comprehensive digital prototyping solutions that brings together design data from all phases of the product development process to develop a single digital model created in Autodesk Inventor software. Its products include Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical and Autodesk Moldflow. The Media and Entertainment segment comprises of two product groups: Animation and Creative Finishing. The Animation products are sold as software only and provide tools for digital sculpting, modeling, animation, effects, rendering, and compositing for design visualization, visual effects and games production. The Creative Finishing products are primarily sold as turnkey solutions for editing, finishing and visual effects design, and color grading. The Autodesk 3ds Max software provides 3D modeling, animation and rendering solutions. The Media and Entertainment segment derives revenue from the sale of licenses of software products to creative professionals, post-production facilities, and broadcasters for a variety of applications, including feature films, television programs, commercials, music and corporate videos, interactive game production, web design and interactive web streaming. Autodesk was founded by John Walker in April 1982 and is headquartered in San Rafael, CA.
