Arlington Asset Investment Corp. provides investment banking, brokerage and asset management services to corporations, institutions and individuals. It is a principal investment company, which acquires mortgage-related and other assets. The company acquires, on a leveraged basis, residential mortgage-backed securities, either issued by a Government agency or guaranteed as to principal and interest by the government agencies government-sponsored entities. It also acquires mortgage-backed securities issued by private organizations. The company was initially founded as Friedman Billings Ramsey Group, Inc. by Eric F. Billings and Ramsey William Russell in 1989. On March 31, 2003, the company was re-organized through the merger of FBR Asset Investment Corp. and Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group, Inc., with and into a newly formed subsidiary of FBR Asset Investment, with the subsidiary surviving as the successor corporation and assumed the name of Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group, Inc. and succeeded to the REIT status of FBR Asset Investment Corp. for federal tax purposes. Arlington Asset Investment is headquartered in Arlington, VA.
