Company Description

Albemarle Corp. develops, manufactures and markets chemicals for consumer electronics, petroleum refining, utilities, packaging, construction, transportation, pharmaceuticals, crop production, food-safety and custom chemistry services. The company operates through three segments: Polymer Solutions, Catalysts and Fine Chemistry. The Polymer Solutions segment consists of two product market categories: flame retardants; and stabilizers and curatives. This category also produces antioxidants and stabilizers to improve the performance integrity of thermoplastic resins. The Catalysts segment includes two categories: refinery catalysts and polyolefin catalysts. The refinery catalysts category offers hydro processing catalysts and fluidized catalytic cracking, catalysts and additives. The polyolefin catalysts category manufactures aluminum- and magnesium-alkyls, which are used as co-catalysts in the production of polyolefins, elastomers, alpha olefins and organotin heat stabilizers which are used in the preparation of organic intermediates. It also produces smetallocene/single-site catalysts, which aid in the development and production of new polymers that increase impact strength, clarity and melt characteristics of plastic films. The Fine Chemistry segment consists of two categories: performance chemicals; and fine chemistry services and intermediates. The performance chemicals category includes products such as elemental bromine, alkyl bromides, inorganic bromides, brominated powdered activated carbon and a number of bromine fine chemicals. The fine chemistry services and intermediates category offers custom manufacturing, research and chemical scale-up services for companies.
