ALON USA Energy, Inc. operates as a holding company, which refines and markets petroleum products through its subsidiaries. The company owns three crude oil refineries in Texas, California and Louisiana. Its refineries produce petroleum products including various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, petrochemicals, petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt, and other petroleum-based products. The company operates through three business segments: Refining and Unbranded Marketing, Asphalt and Retail and Branded Marketing. The Refining and Unbranded Marketing segment includes sour and crude oil refineries that are located in Big Spring, Texas; and Paramount, Bakersfield and Long Beach, California; and a light sweet crude oil refinery located in Krotz Springs, Louisiana. Its Big Spring refinery produces ultra-low sulfur gasoline, ultra-low sulfur diesel, jet fuel, petrochemicals, petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt and other petroleum products. The Asphalt segment includes Big Spring, Paramount and Willbridge, those specializes in marketing patented tire rubber modified asphalt products. It also produces both paving and roofing grades of asphalt and, depending on the terminal, can manufacture performance-graded asphalts, emulsions and cutbacks. The Retail and Branded Marketing segment offers various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, general merchandise and food and beverage products.
