Its family of companies includes six life insurance companies, eight property and casualty insurance companies, and numerous non-insurance subsidiaries. The company operates in five business segments: Life, Annuity, Health, Property and Casualty and Corporate & Other. The Life segment provides individual and group life insurance products, including whole life, term life, variable universal life & universal life and credit life insurance. The Annuity segment provides products both to individuals and small businesses, including deferred annuity, single premium immediate annuity and variable annuity. The Health segment provides medicare supplement, supplemental insurance, medical expense, stop-loss and credit disability. The Property & Casualty segment provides personal lines, credit-related property insurance products that include collateral protection insurance and guaranteed auto protection or guaranteed asset protection. The Corporate and Other Segment encompasses primarily invested assets that are not used to support its insurance activities. It also includes its non-insurance subsidiaries, such as investment advisory products and services. This segment provides investment services to each of its other segments and to non-insurance subsidiaries. The company was founded by William L. Moody in 1905 and is headquartered in Galveston, TX.
