Bank of Nova Scotia is a financial services company, which provides a diverse range of products and services, including personal, business, corporate and institutional banking. The company operates through four segments: Canadian Banking, International Banking, Global Wealth Management and Global Banking & Markets. The Canadian Banking segment provides a wide range of financial advice and banking solutions to retail, small business and commercial customers in Canada. This segment includes two businesses: Retail Banking & Small Business Banking, and Commercial Banking. The Retail & Small Business Banking business provides financial advice and solutions to individuals and small businesses, such as day-to-day banking products, including debit cards, deposit accounts, credit cards, investments, mortgages, loans, and related creditor insurance products. The Commercial Banking business delivers advisory services and variety of solutions suite to medium and large businesses, including a broad array of lending, deposit and cash management solutions. The International Banking segment provides a wide range of financial products, solutions and advice to retail and commercial customers outside of Canada. This segment operates in the Caribbean and Central America, Mexico, Latin America and Asia. The Global Wealth Management segment offers wealth management and insurance services to retail and commercial customers in Canada and internationally. This segment includes two businesses: Wealth Management and Insurance. The Wealth Management is an integrated business comprised of again two segments: Global Asset Management and Global Wealth Distribution. The Global Asset Management is an investment manufacturing business, which is focused on developing innovative investment solutions for both retail and institutional investors. The Global Wealth Distribution contains the global client-facing wealth businesses including private client, online and full service brokerage and the independent advisor channel. Its focus is on providing advice and solutions for clients in Canada and internationally. The Insurance includes four business lines in Canada: creditor, life and health, home and auto and travel. The Global Banking & Markets segment is a wholesale banking and capital markets arm of the Bank. This segment offers a wide range of products to corporate, government and institutional investor clients. It provides corporate lending, equity and debt underwriting, and mergers and acquisitions advisory services, and also capital markets products and services, such as fixed income, derivatives, prime brokerage, securitization, foreign exchange, equity sales, trading and research, energy and agricultural commodities, and, through ScotiaMocatta, precious and base metals. Bank of Nova Scotia was founded on March 30, 1832 and is headquartered in Toronto, Canada.
