It operates its business through four segments: Canadian Banking, International Banking, Global Wealth & Insurance and Global Banking & Markets. The Canadian Banking segment provides a full suite of financial advice and banking solutions, supported by customer experience, to retail, small business and commercial customers in Canada. This segment includes two businesses: Retail & Small Business Banking, and Commercial Banking. The Retail & Small Business Banking provides financial advice, solutions and day-to-day banking products, including debit cards, deposit accounts, credit cards, investments, mortgages, loans, and related creditor insurance products, to individuals and small businesses. The Commercial Banking delivers advice and a full suite of customized lending, deposit, cash management and trade finance solutions to medium and large businesses. The International Banking segment provides a full range of financial products, solutions and advice to retail and commercial customers in select regions outside of Canada. The Global Wealth & Insurance segment offers wealth management and insurance products and services to retail and institutional clients in Canada and internationally. This segment includes two businesses: Global Wealth and Global Insurance. The Global Wealth comprises of asset management and client-facing businesses. The Global Insurance has four main business lines in Canada: creditor, life and health, home & auto and travel. The Global Banking & Markets segment offers corporate and investment banking and capital markets products to corporate, government & institutional investor clients in Canada and select regions abroad. It provides corporate lending, equity and debt underwriting, and mergers and acquisitions advisory services, and also capital markets products and services, such as fixed income, derivatives, prime brokerage, securitization, foreign exchange, equity sales, trading and research, energy and agricultural commodities, and, through ScotiaMocatta, precious and base metals. The company was founded on March 30, 1832 and is headquartered in Halifax, Canada.
