The Packet-Optical Switching segment includes an optical switching platform that enables automated optical infrastructures for the delivery of a wide variety of enterprise and consumer-oriented network services. The Carrier Ethernet Solutions segment includes products support the access and aggregation tiers of communications networks and have principally been deployed to support wireless backhaul infrastructures and business data services. The Software and Services segment includes Ciena's integrated network and service management software designed to automate and simplify network management, operation and service delivery. Ciena was founded by Patrick H. Nettles in November 1992 and is headquartered in Hanover, MD.
