It acquires and process 2-D, 3-D and multi-component seismic data for its clients, ranging from major oil and gas companies to independent oil and gas operators as well as providers of multi-client data libraries. Its clients rely on seismic data to identify areas where subsurface conditions are favorable for the accumulation of hydrocarbons, as well as to optimize the development and production of hydrocarbon reservoirs. It operates 3-D seismic data acquisition crews in the United States and seismic data processing centers. Its Geophysical Services business consists of the acquisition and processing of seismic data to produce an image of the earth's subsurface. The seismic method involves the recording of reflected acoustic or sonic waves from below the ground. The company was founded by L. Decker Dawson in 1952 and is headquartered in Midland, TX.
