The company, through its subsidiaries, markets and underwrites personal lines of property and casualty primarily personal lines automobile and homeowners insurance, retirement annuities, including primarily tax-qualified products and life insurance in the United States. It operates through the following segments: Property and Casualty Insurance, Annuity Products and Life Insurance, Corporate and Other. The company operates in four segments: Property and Casualty Insurance, Annuity Products and Life Insurance, Corporate and Other. The Property and Casualty Insurance products primarily include private passenger automobile and Property Insurance including Homeowners Insurance, Replacement Cost on Contents Coverage, Identity Theft Services and Renters Insurance. The company also offers Annuity Products, such as tax-qualified products and traditional term, whole life and group life insurance policies. The Life Insurance segment offers traditional term, whole life insurance, Universal Life Insurance, Variable Universal Life Insurance products and from time to time, revises products and product features or develops new products. The Corporate and Other segment includes interest expense on debt, the impact of realized investment gains and losses and certain public company expenses. Horace Mann Educators markets and distributes its products and services through a sales force agents and independent distribution channels. The company was founded by Carrol Hall and Leslie Nimmo in 1945 and is headquartered in Springfield, IL.
