II-VI, Inc. develops, refines, manufactures and markets engineered materials and opto-electronic components and products for precision use in industrial, optical communications, military, semiconductor, medical and life science applications. It operates its business through four reportable segments: Infrared Optics, Near Infrared Optics, Military & Materials and Advanced Products Group. The Infrared Optics segment designs, manufactures and markets customized technology for laser material processing to deliver both low-power and high-power one-micron laser light for industrial applications by its HIGHYAG operations. The Near-Infrared Optics segment designs, manufactures and markets customized optics, optical components and optical modules for consumer and commercial applications such as fiber optic communications, projection and display products, lasers, medical equipment and bio-medical instrumentation by its Photop operations. The Military & Materials segment designs, manufactures and markets ultra-violet to infrared optical components and high precision optical assemblies, which include micro-fine conductive mesh patterns for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and other military, medical and commercial laser and imaging applications by its Military operations. This segment also includes refinement, reclamation, manufacturing and marketing of a rare earth element green energy application by its PRM processing and refinement operations. The Advanced Products Group segment designs, manufactures and markets thermoelectric modules and assemblies for cooling, heating and power generation applications in the defense, telecommunications, medical, automotive, gesture recognition, consumer and industrial markets by its Marlow Industries, Inc. (Marlow) operations. This segment also designs, manufactures and markets advanced ceramic materials and precision motion control products for the semiconductor, display, industrial and defense markets by its M Cubed business unit. It also designs, manufactures and markets single crystal SiC substrates for use in the defense and space, telecommunications, and industrial markets by its Wide Bandgap Materials Group. II-VI was founded by Carl J. Johnson in 1971 and is headquartered in Saxonburg, PA.
