Intel Corp. designs, manufactures and sells computer components and related products. It also engages in the designing and manufacturing of computing and communication components, such as microprocessors, chipsets, motherboards, and wireless and wired connectivity products. The company develops advanced integrated digital technology products, primarily integrated circuits, for industries such as computing and communications. It also develops platforms, which it defines as integrated suites of digital computing technologies that are designed and configured to work together to provide an optimized user computing solution. The company operates its business through five segments: PC Client Group, Data Center Group, Other Intel Architecture Group, Software & Services and All Other. The PC Client Group segment includes platforms designed for the notebook, desktop, and certain tablet market segments; and wireless and wired connectivity products. The Data Center Group segment includes platforms designed for the server, workstation, and storage computing market segments; and wired network connectivity products. The Other Intel Architecture Group segment includes platforms designed for embedded applications for communications, medical, automotive, industrial, retail, and other market segments; mobile components such as baseband processors, radio frequency transceivers, WiFi, Bluetooth, global navigation satellite system, and power management chips; platforms designed for the tablet market segment; platforms designed for the smart phone market segment; gateway and set-top box components; and platforms designed for the notebook market segment; delivering reference devices and technology platforms ready to be used by customers as well as System-on-Chip architecture specifically designed for wearable and other emerging compute opportunities. The Software and Services Operating segment includes software products for endpoint security, network and content security, risk and compliance, and consumer and mobile security from its McAfee business; software optimized products for the embedded and mobile market segments; and software products and services that promote Intel architecture as the platform of choice for software development. The company was founded by Robert Norton Noyce and Gordon Earle Moore on July 18, 1968 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, CA.
