La-Z-Boy, Inc. is a manufacturer, marketer and retailer of upholstery products and a marketer of imported or manufactured casegoods furniture products. The company operates its business under three segments: Upholstery, Casegoods and Retail. The Upholstery segment manufactures or imports upholstered furniture, such as recliners and motion furniture, sofas, loveseats, chairs, sectionals, modulars, ottomans and sleeper sofas. It sells directly to La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries stores, operators of Comfort Studios locations, major dealers and other independent retailers. The Casegoods segment is an importer, marketer, manufacturer and distributor of casegoods (wood) furniture, such as bedroom sets, dining room sets, entertainment centers and occasional pieces, and some coordinated upholstered furniture. This segment consists of two operating units, one consisting of American Drew, Lea and Hammary, and the second being Kincaid. It primarily sells to dealers and other independent retailers. The Retail segment primarily sells upholstered furniture, in addition to some casegoods and other accessories, to the end consumer through the retail network. The business was founded by Edward M. Knabusch and Edwin J. Shoemaker in 1927. La-Z-Boy was incorporated in 1941 and is headquartered in Monroe, MI.
