Pearson Plc is an international media and education company, which engages in the education, business information and consumer publishing markets. It creates and manages intellectual property, which promotes and sells under well-known brand names to inform, educate and entertain. Pearson delivers content in a variety of forms and through a variety of channels, including books, newspapers and online services. The company operates its business through four segments: North American Education, International Education, Professional, and FT Group. The North American Education segment publishes assessment and testing for the school and higher education market within United States of America and Canada. It serves educators and students in the USA and Canada from early education through elementary, middle and high schools and into higher education with a wide range of products and services: curriculum textbooks and other learning materials; student assessments and testing services; and education technologies. The International Education segment publishes assessment and testing for the school and higher education market outside of North America. It covers all educational publishing and related services outside North America. Its portfolio includes innovative text books, digital learning solutions, online testing and assessments and a suite of integrated services. The Professional segment provides business, technology publishing training, testing and certification for professional bodies. It is focused on publishing, training, testing and certification for professionals. Its professional training business provides technical education and training services with particular expertise in skills related to defense, engineering, oil and gas and construction sectors. The FT Group segment publishes Financial Times, business magazines and specialist information. It provides a broad range of data, analysis and services through a growing number of print, digital and mobile channels, to an audience of internationally-minded business people and financial institutions. Pearson was founded by Pearson Samuel in 1844 and is headquartered in London, United Kingdom.
