Spectra Energy Corp. provides natural gas and related energy trading and marketing services. The company manages its business through four reportable segments: U.S. Transmission, Distribution, Western Canada Transmission & Processing and Field Services. The U.S. Transmission segment provides transportation and storage of natural gas for customers in regions of the Northeastern U.S., Southeastern U.S. and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. The Distribution segment provides services in Canada through the company's subsidiary, Union Gas Ltd. It serves primarily residential, commercial, and industrial customers in Northern, Southwestern, and Eastern Ontario. The Western Canada Transmission & Processing segment provides transportation of natural gas, natural gas gathering and processing services, and Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) extraction, fractionation, transportation, storage and marketing to customers in western Canada and the northern tier of the U.S. This segment conducts business mostly through BC Pipeline, BC Field Services, and the NGL marketing and Canadian Midstream businesses. BC Pipeline and BC Field Services provide fee-based natural gas transportation, gas gathering, and processing services. The BC Pipeline transports processed natural gas from facilities mostly in Northeast British Columbia to markets in British Columbia, Alberta and the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The BC Field Services business consists of raw gas gathering pipelines and gas processing facilities, primarily in Northeast British Columbia. These facilities provide services to natural gas producers that remove impurities from the raw gas stream. The Canadian Midstream business provides similar gas gathering and processing services in British Columbia and Alberta. The Field Services segment gathers, processes, treats, compresses, transports and stores natural gas. In addition, this segment also fractionates, transports, gathers, processes, stores, markets and trades NGLs. It conducts operations through DCP Midstream, which is owned 50% by Spectra and 50% by Phillips 66. Spectra Energy was founded on January 2, 2007and is headquartered in Houston, TX.
