Thomson Reuters is organized in four segments: Financial & Risk, Legal, Tax & Accounting and Intellectual Property & Science segment. The Financial & Risk segment provides critical news, information and analytics, enabling transactions and serve trading, investing, financial and corporate professionals. It provides regulatory and operational risk management solutions. The segment serves four end-user groups: Trading, Investors, Marketplaces, and Governance, Risk & Compliance group. The Trading business serves the financial community and allows market participants to connect, access content, and trade in a secure environment. The Investors business provides the buy-side and off-trading customers with information, analytics, workflow and technology solutions and also offers pricing and reference data for trade matching, settlement, risk management and portfolio evaluation. The Marketplaces business operates electronic trading venues and provides access to liquidity in over-the-counter markets, trade execution and connections for market participants and communities of financial professionals. The Governance, Risk & Compliance business provides audit, risk and compliance solutions. The Legal segment provides critical information, decision support tools, software and services to legal, investigation, business and government professionals. It offers online services that utilize electronic databases of legal, regulatory, news, public records and business information. The segment's products and services include legal research solutions; software-based workflow solutions; compliance solutions; marketing, finance and operations software and consulting services; and legal process outsourcing services. The Tax & Accounting segment provides integrated tax compliance and accounting information, software and services for professionals in accounting firms, corporations, law firms and government. Its businesses are Corporate, which provides federal, state, local and international tax compliance, planning and management software and services; Indirect, Property and Trust, which provides software for managing compliance of indirect, property and trust taxes and also information reporting; Professional, which provides a suite of tax, accounting, digital documentation and practice management software and services to accounting firms; Knowledge Solutions which provides information and research for tax and accounting professionals; and Government, which provides integrated property tax management and land registry solutions. The Intellectual Property & Science segment provides intellectual property and scientific information, decision support tools and services. The segment is organized in three businesses: IP Solutions, which provides patent and trademark content and services; Life Sciences, which helps accelerate pharmaceutical research and development by providing decision support information and analytics to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies; and Scientific & Scholarly Research, which enables discovery and fosters collaboration by providing access to the world's critical research. The company also created Global Growth & Operations unit which works to expand its presence and development. The company's other businesses include : Healthcare and Reuters News Agency business. The Healthcare business provides information, tools, analytics, services and decision support solutions to hospitals and health systems, clinicians, employers and government. The Reuters News Agency business provides coverage of global, regional and national news covering politics, business, finance, entertainment, lifestyle, technology, health, science and sports. Thomson Reuters was formed by the merger of Thomson Corp. and Reuters Group Plc on April 17, 2008 and is headquartered in New York, NY.
