The Energy segment engages in the acquisition, development, construction, ownership, and operation of electrical power generation plants; non-regulated natural gas storage; purchase and marketing of electricity; provision of electricity account services to energy and industrial customers in Alberta. The company's business roots back to March 21, 1951 when its subsidiary was established as TransCanada Pipe Lines Ltd. TransCanada was founded on February 25, 2003 and is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.
