Boeing, McDonnell Douglas to create largest aerospace firm

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - The Boeing Co.'s plan to acquire McDonnell Douglas Corp. will create an aerospace giant with global influence. Here are some facts about the deal:
The money
- Value: $13.3 billion in stock or 0.65 Boeing shares per share in McDonnell Douglas
- Current work force: 145,000 at Boeing; 64,600 at McDonnell Douglas
- Projected 1997 combined revenues: $48 billion ($28 billion from Boeing; $20 billion from McDonnell Douglas)
- Combined orders backlog: $100 billion
- Net earnings: Boeing earned $393 million in 1995; McDonnell Douglas lost $416 million;
- Ticker symbols: Boeing is BA; McDonnell Douglas is MD;
The bosses
- New management roles: Boeing CEO Phil Condit becomes chairman and CEO after the merger; McDonnell Douglas CEO Harry Stonecipher becomes president and chief operating officer
- New headquarters: Seattle (Boeing is currently based in Seattle; McDonnell Douglas is based in St. Louis)
