Airline to renovate facilities, expand employee-training program
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - British Airways Plc Tuesday announced a new three-year program that will result in improved airport facilities in New York and London as well as expanded employee training.
In a news conference in New York Tuesday, British Airways Chairman Colin Marshall said the total investment will be more than $10 billion. However, approximately $9 billion of that total will fund the previously announced acquisition of 43 new jets from The Boeing Co.
Of the remaining $1 billion, $100 million will be used to upgrade the airline's terminal at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. The check-in areas at London's Heathrow Airport will also receive a facelift.
Marshall said the airline was also eyeing more alliances similar to the proposed deal between BA and America Airlines which is still awaiting regulatory approval.
