Computer maker, AT&T Capital to offer leasing and financing services

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Compaq Computer Corp., the world's No. 1 personal computer manufacturer, Thursday announced a joint venture with AT&T Capital Corp. to provide equipment leasing and financing to Compaq's European customers.
The joint venture, to be known as Compaq Capital Europe LLC, will be owned by Compaq Capital Corp. and AT&T Capital.
"Compaq continues to experience tremendous growth in Europe, and the support of a dedicated financing partner will bolster our overall competitive capabilities," said Andreas Barth, Compaq Europe's senior vice president and general manager.
Beginning in October, Compaq Capital Europe will offer financial services to Compaq customers in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. In 1998, the venture will expand to Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and Turkey.
AT&T Capital, formerly majority owned by AT&T Corp. and now privately-held, specializes in equipment leasing and financing.
