Company transforms its web site into free online service for professionals

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Netscape Communications Corp. is transforming its Web site into a new, free online service for professionals, the company said Wednesday.
The service, called Netcenter, will debut next week with a variety of new features, including expanded information on software, Netscape said.
Netscape has one of the leading sites on the Web, because its popular Navigator browser's default position is its home page.
The move follows a string of companies offering more online services for free to attract more Web users.
Among the offerings, Netscape will provide e-mail with news bulletins, private Web pages for discussion groups, and automatic updates on software from Netscape and its software partners, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
