Build-to-order economies cited for business PC reductions up to 15 percent

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Compaq Computer Corp. Wednesday announced plans to cut the prices of its business desktop models by up to 15 percent.
Compaq said strong demand in its build-to-order business has led to increased efficiency and lower production costs.
By building products when orders are received, Compaq said its material costs are decreasing dramatically.
Among the models that are being reduced are the Deskpro 2000, from $1,579 to $1,339; Deskpro 4000, from $1,389 to $1,269 and Deskpro 400, from $1,759 to $1,559.
