Business information group sold to M.A.I.D. for $420 million

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Britain's M.A.I.D. Plc said Thursday it is buying Knight-Ridder Information Inc. for $420 million.
Knight-Ridder, through its U.S.-based Dialog, Canadian Infomart-Dialog Ltd. and European DataStar services, supplies online information to research libraries in corporate, government and academic institutions.
M.A.I.D. also supplies online business information internationally.
M.A.I.D. said it will finance part of the deal through an equity offering, primarily in the United Kingdom. The remainder of the buy will be financed through loans and by issuing new notes.
