Communications company says it will repurchase as much as $1B of stock

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - AirTouch Communications said Wednesday its board of directors had authorized the repurchase of up to $1 billion of its common and preferred shares.
The company plans to purchase the shares on the open market periodically depending on market conditions.
In addition to operations in the United States, AirTouch has interests in cellular, paging and personal communications services in Belgium, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, South Korea, Spain and Sweden. AirTouch also has a share of the Globalstar satellite system.
