NEW YORK (CNNfn) - America Online reportedly is considering scaling back the customer-support operations of its soon-to-be acquired CompuServe unit by as much as 20 percent.
The proposal would affect more than 300 positions at the Columbus, Ohio-based company's work force, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday in its interactive edition.
America Online, the nation's largest online service provider, announced plans to acquire CompuServe last September in a complex transaction that first put the H&R Block unit into the hands of WorldCom Inc.
CompuServe shareholders are expected to approve the proposed sale of the company to WorldCom Friday.
AOL executives have said they intend to run CompuServe as a separate brand but have declined to disclose their strategy.
