NEW YORK (CNNfn) - There's something new developing at Polaroid Corp.
The Cambridge, Mass.-based camera giant unveiled more than 25 new instant and digital imaging products, among them the world's first instant single-use camera and the smallest instant camera ever made.
The products, recently launched or slated for market release in the next 12 months, also include an array of printers, instant developing films, lasers, imaging and identification systems. A line of fashion sunglasses featuring polarized lenses also is planned.
"The next 12 months will be unmatched in Polaroid history for number and breadth of new products coming to the market," said Gary DiCamillo, Polaroid chairman and chief executive Thursday.
The company's new instant single-use camera will be available in the U.S. in the second half of 1998. Dubbed PopShots, the camera produces 10 prints measuring 4-3/8 by 2-1/2 inches, comes with a flash and a manual lever for ejecting prints. It will sell for less than $20.
The company also will offer a 35 millimeter instant single-use camera. It will give the user an instant mini-print of the 35mm picture just taken, letting the user choose and order only the prints of the desired frames.
Polaroid's new pocket-size instant camera, the smallest ever, makes mini-prints and is slim enough to fit into a jacket or a small child's hand. Future versions of this camera's film will come with an adhesive backing, so children can use them as photo stickers.
"These products all draw on Polaroid's heritage for innovation, ease-of-use, fun and immediacy," said DiCamillo.
"The array of products that we are previewing today marks the transformation of Polaroid into a new products company. More important than any new single product we are previewing today is the fact that Polaroid now has a new products culture. This new culture will ensure a steady stream of exciting new imaging products year after year," he added.
Pricing and other specifications for many of the products will be available in coming months.Back to top
