NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Two leading computer makers are keeping pace with the recent trend in price cuts. Apple Computer Inc. announced price reductions on its Power Macintosh G3 line of personal computers and AppleVision displays, while Compaq Computer Corp. stated that it is cutting prices across its entire Armada notebook line.
Apple's G3 line of desktop computers now range in price from $1,699 to $3,799, down from $1,999 to $4,199. The price cuts represent reductions of $300 to $500 for individual units.
The company also cut prices for its AppleVision line of monitors. The AppleVision 750 and 750 AV, for example, now cost $699 and $799 respectively, down from $849 and $949.
Apple's revamped price structure comes on the heels of its announcement that it does not expect to post year-over-year sales growth until the fourth quarter.
Apple also announced the availability of the new Macintosh Server G3. Designed for corporate networks, the Server G3 is available in two standard models-the $4,999 266MHz Server G3 and the lower-end 233MHz model priced at $3,749.
The company stated that it is capable of making up to 500 built-to-order configurations of the Server G3.
Compaq has reduced prices of its Armada line of notebooks. Under the new pricing structure, Armada units now range from $999 to $5,399, down from $1,999 to $5,799. The computer maker also announced several promotional programs, including free memory upgrades and free mobile CD units with the purchase of select Armada models.
Last month, Compaq announced that it was cutting prices on some of its server models.Back to top
