Only 'small progress' seen so far in negotiations to end Flint, Mich., strikes

FLINT, Mich. (CNN) - Talks aimed at ending strikes at two General Motors plants resumed Monday morning, according to a source in the United Auto Workers union.
The union source said some "small progress" had been made over the weekend on a couple of issues but there was nothing to get excited about.
The walkouts by 9,200 workers at the Flint Metal Center plant and the Delphi Flint East plant have caused parts shortages throughout the GM manufacturing system and idled 60,000 workers.
The UAW has said the issue is GM's continued exportation of jobs to plants in Mexico, Thailand and South America. GM has said it needs to make its plants more efficient in order to compete with other auto makers.
General Motors stock (GM) was down 9/16 at 69-5/16 in midday trading. The stock has fallen 5-1/8, or 6.79 percent, since the strike began.
