One small Georgia company uses free BMW leases to keep employees
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - One Georgia software company has come up with a unique way to keep its workers amid the competition for employees that has accompanied the torrid pace of small business expansion.
Revenue Systems Inc., an Alpharetta, Ga.-based provider of computer systems and software to help governments collect tax revenue, is offering each of its 38 employees free three-year BMW car leases. Employees will be able to choose from a Z-3 Roadster or a BMW 318-i or 323 sedan.
The cars, which are expected to arrive Sept. 1, will be leased in the company's name, although employees will be responsible for insuring the vehicles. Workers will be able to use the car for both personal and business travel.
If the program proves successful, RSI officials plan to continue it, giving employees new cars at the end of the three-year lease.
Bill Glover, RSI president, said the goal of the program was to reward current employees. He also hopes it will give the company a competitive advantage in attracting new employees.
That's important since RSI hopes to add another 30 people in the next six months to a year to help clients in dealing with the Year 2000 bug. It is also expecting bids on revenue collection systems from seven additional states over the next year.
In addition to the car leases, other incentives RSI uses to lure employees include 401(k) plans, medical and dental insurance.
RSI also hopes current employees will tell other programmers and technically-skilled people they know about RSI. The company also plans to use the BMW's in its recruiting ads that will be placed in trade magazines and other publications.
