IRS, SBA provide free tax counseling service for owners of small businesses
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Small business owners will soon be able to get free tax advice from the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) recently announced.
"This onsite assistance provided by the IRS will help them to get their business tax questions answered in a timely and unhurried atmosphere at SBA's one-stop facility," said Bob Meredith, SBA Seattle district director.
The tax counseling - offered in conjunction with the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) -- will be provided to business owners at SBA Business Information Centers throughout the country.
IRS representatives will make appointments to answer entrepreneurs' questions about their tax responsibilities as employers and small business owners, the SBA said.
To recognize the unique nature of every small business, the IRS will personalize its counseling to meet each client's needs, said Paul Beene, IRS district director for the Pacific Northwest.
"We have found that many of our clients need guidance in the area of taxes," said Paul Hirz, chairman of the Seattle chapter of SCORE. "The IRS counseling will compliment the free business counseling offered by SCORE to men and women in this area who are interested in starting or growing an existing business."
Although the tax counseling is available at SBA offices throughout the country, a comprehensive list of locations is not available at this time, said SCORE spokeswoman Christine Goodno.
Instead, the program will be supported on a local basis, with local SCORE chapters providing assistance tailored to the needs of each community, she added.
SCORE currently provides advice to small business owners across the United States via a wide range of channels including counseling via email and satellite conferences.
