Companies to offer one-stop site to manage phone, Web communications

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Netscape Communications Corp. and Qwest Communications International Inc. said Thursday they have agreed to a three-year alliance to combine Netscape's Internet services with Qwest's telecommunications technology.
The companies said the service, called Netscape Contact, will allow customers to manage their telephone and Internet communications. The service will be available through Netscape's Netcenter Web portal site and will be integrated with Netscape's Navigator Web browser.
Netscape has agreed to link Netcenter to the nationwide fiber optic network Qwest is building.
Netscape and Qwest said customers will be able to place long-distance and conference calls as well as send faxes and e-mail from Netscape Contact.
The companies said they will offer a co-branded Access Card that will allow customers to manage their billing, access services and make calling-card calls. Netcenter members also will have access to Qwest's long-distance services under two special billing programs, one for basic users and one for customers with heavier demands for phone services.
The companies also said a Unified Messaging feature will allow users to access voicemail, e-mail and faxes through an "in box" in Netscape Contact, while a call center will enable customers to initiate multi-party conference calls from the Web.
Some services, including the long-distance offerings, will be available by the end of September.
The companies also entered into a reseller agreement that allows Qwest's commercial sales division to offer Netscape software applications to its business customers.
Netscape (NSCP) shares closed at 23-5/16 in Wednesday trading. Qwest (QWST) shares finished at 32-15/16.
