MCI WorldCom to unveil new Web-based service for businesses
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - MCI WorldCom Inc. said Wednesday it has launched a new service to aid businesses in their electronic-commerce activities.
The company said the service, which combines technologies developed by its UUNet WorldCom and MCI Systemhouse business units, will provide businesses with a Web-based environment to lower the costs associated with business-to-business e-commerce.
UUNet WorldCom provides backbone Internet communications services to businesses and online services providers; MCI Systemhouse provides network management services.
Earlier this week, MCI WorldCom announced a new service called On-Net, which the company said will allow businesses to combine local and long-distance voice and data traffic on one network.
MCI and WorldCom completed their $37 billion merger earlier this month.
MCI WorldCom (WCOM) shares were off 5/8 at 49-15/16 in early trading.
