Dell to ship CDs with AOL software in two-year marketing agreement

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Dell Computer Corp. and America Online signed a two-year agreement to feature AOL on Dell consumer computers sold in the U.S. and Canada.
Dell (DELL), based in Round Rock, Texas, and the Dulles, Va.-based America Online (AOL) said that, starting Monday, Dell Dimension and Inspiron systems will ship with CDs containing AOL 4.0 software and include 100 hours free use of AOL in the first month.
Early next year Dell users will be able to access a pre-installed, customized version of the AOL 4.0 software that features links to Dell's web services as part of Dell's ConnectDirect program.
Dell is the world's leading direct computer systems company, based on revenue of $16.8 billion for the past four quarters. America Online is the world's leader in branded interactive services and content. It operates two Internet online services: America Online, with 14 million members, and CompuServe, with about 2 million members.
Dell was up 2-1/8 at 70 in early trading Monday. AOL was up 7-5/8 at 111-7/8.
