New INC service allows businesses to move voice, data on same network
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - AT&T Corp. unveiled some new services Tuesday that will allow businesses to send voice and data traffic on one integrated network and ensure Internet privacy, the company said.
AT&T Corp. (T), the No. 1 U.S. long-distance company, said the Integrated Network Connection (INC) service will help businesses chop 10 to 20 percent off their communications costs as more types of traffic can go on a single line.
The New York-based company said INC automatically devotes enough bandwidth to wherever it's needed as the type of traffic and demands of the network fluctuate. The service works with existing customer premises equipment.
INC currently is being tested and is scheduled to be available in the second half of the year.
The company also introduced Enterprise Class Virtual Private Network (VPN) services, which allow businesses to transmit information across a secure location on the Internet.
AT&T said the new VPN services combines frame-relay technology with the presence of Internet Protocol technology. It will be available by the end of March.
The new hybrid service is targeted at the intranet, extranet and frame relay markets and to customers seeking the added flexibility, reach and cost-effectiveness offered by a VPN.
AT&T stock was down 1-15/16 at 87-11/16 in afternoon trading.
