NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Toronto stocks lost their early upward momentum on Friday, sinking as the keenly watched Dow Jones industrial average in New York suffered a reversal and dropped into negative turf.
The benchmark Toronto Stock Exchange's 300 Composite Index lost a scant 3.65 points, or 0.06 percent, to close the week at 6,562.10.
Toronto's market, heavily weighted in battered natural-resource issues, has been ignored in the Dow's race for 10,000, analysts agreed.
Elsewhere in the region, the Montreal Exchange also closed lower. The benchmark Portfolio shed 19.47 points, or 0.55 percent, to finish at 3,493.18.
Further west, the Vancouver Stock Exchange staged a late-day rally to round out the day in the black. The composite picked up 0.33 points, or 0.06 percent, to close at 425.56.
