Shares in Toronto, Montreal dip slightly, Vancouver bucks trend with small gain
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Toronto stocks closed nearly flat on Thursday as gains in some sectors, including energy and base metals were canceled out by weakness in others.
Triple-witching options and the expiration of futures on Friday may make the market behave unpredictably as Thursday's session winds to a close, traders said.
"I think it may turn positive," one dealer said. "Keep in mind, tomorrow is triple-witch...so it's hard to tell which way it will go."
The Toronto Stock Exchange's key TSE 300 Composite Index lost a scant 7.52 points, or 0.11 percent, to 6586.30.
Elsewhere in Canada, Montreal's benchmark Portfolio fell 2.12, or 0.06 percent, to 3495.30. Bucking the trend was the Vancouver Composite, which gained 0.99, or 0.23 percent, to 425.69.
