Hewlett Packard looks to beef up Net business application offerings
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - In an effort to build on its Internet strategy, Hewlett-Packard Co. is developing electronic business products with server software firm Oracle Corp., the companies said Wednesday.
Oracle already makes a wide variety of business applications and Hewlett Packard hopes to integrate its "e-speak" technology into them.
Hewlett Packard, perhaps best known for its computers and imaging products, has said it wants to aggressively pursue more Internet-based strategies, and HP Enterprise Computing president Ann Livermore said this is the next step.
"Our combined products will help enable Internet Chapter 2, where the Web will work for you rather than you having to work the Web," Livermore said.
The HP-Oracle partnership will focus mainly on developing business-oriented products, allowing businesses to purchase materials on the Web and hosting the applications companies use in their operations.
In Tuesday trading, Hewlett Packard (HWP) lost 5-3/4 to 104-1/2 while Oracle (ORCL) shed 2 to 37-5/16.
