It's an IPO desert out there

In the week ahead, a mere two initial public offerings hit Wall Street

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Looking for initial public offerings this week? Look hard.
After a series of double-digit IPO weeks, only two companies are brave enough to debut in the days ahead.
"Next week looks kind of low," said Richard Peterson, spokesman for Securities Data Co. "We're headed into the late summer, pre-Labor Day drought for deals."
Don't expect that to change until mid-September, Peterson said.
And why should it? Last week was another tough one for IPOs, with a series of postponements punctuated by few high-flyers.
Telecom services firm Orius Corp., which will trade under the ticker symbol "ORS," Internet firm Bamboo.com Inc., "BAMB," and online music retailer Tunes.com, "TUNZ" joined the growing number of companies that delayed their initial public offerings.
Several companies including LaBranche (LAB), the Wall Street specialist, and LookSmart (LOOK), an Internet directory, trimmed their offering amounts. Neither debuted well.
In one of the week's few solid gainer, shares of Wink Communications Inc (WINK) more than doubled on Thursday.
The weak ahead
In next week's deals, IPO scarcity may actually help demand for the two lone companies coming to market.
Imagex.com, "IMGX," which postponed its offering in July, is heading back to market. In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, the Internet-based provider of printed business materials spoke of the growing market for its services. But the company did not provide earnings or revenue figures.
The Bellevue, Wash.-based company plans to issue 4 million shares priced in the $8 to $10 range.
In the week's other offering, Purchasepro.com, "PPRO," which runs online business-to-business commerce communities, plans to issue 4 million shares in the $11 to $13 price range.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission filing, the Las Vegas-based company did not offer revenue or earnings data.
