Strong labor market continues as first-time claims remain below 300,000

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - The number of Americans filing first-time claims for state unemployment benefits fell to 285,000 for the week ended Nov. 6, a government report indicated Thursday.
The figure was down from a revised 291,000 the week before, the Labor Department said, and in line with economists' forecasts.
The four-week moving average, which generally provides a more accurate picture of jobless trends, was 286,750, down from a revised 287,750 the week prior.
New claims had been hovering near or below the 300,000 mark since mid-January, a level consistent with a tight job market.
Continued claims were 2,101,000 for the week ended Oct. 30, the latest data available, up from a revised 2,131,000.
