Fire extinguisher recalled

FIRE CAP, a fire and smoke suppressant, does not do the job

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - More than 136,000 cans of "FIRE CAP" brand fire and smoke suppressant are being recalled. 
    According to distributors and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the product does not suppress fires and could actually intensify fires.
    The "FIRE CAP" cans were manufactured by The Colbra Group, which is now out  of business.
    No injuries have been reported.
    graphicThe aerosol cans are red, orange, yellow, black and white, with a red plastic cap and red aerosol button. The front of the cans read "FIRE CAP...FIRE and SMOKE SUPPRESSANT. FOR USE ON SMALL SPOT FIRES..." The back of the cans illustrate drawings of the product being used on trash-can fires, stove fires, car fires and camp fires. The back also reads "Manufactured by the Colbra Group."
    It was sold nationwide from February 1996 through September 1999 for about $10 by vendors including Snap-On Tools dealers, Home Shopping Network Inc., and direct market distributors, such as Mid-State Fire Systems and Contract Filling Inc. 
    Consumers are instructed to should stop using this product immediately. They should either throw out the can or return it to the place where purchased for a full refund.
