Printing giants agree to resolve 6 patent infringement lawsuits
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Hewlett-Packard and Xerox announced Monday they have reached an amicable settlement that ends patent lawsuits that have dragged on for nearly two years.
As part of the agreement, neither company would disclose specific settlement details.
Since May 1998, the printer makers have waged battle in court in six different patent infringement lawsuits.
In one case, Rochester, N.Y.-based Xerox (XRX: Research, Estimates) filed suit against Hewlett-Packard over claims that HP inkjet cartridges used proprietary Xerox technology.
In another case, Palo Alto, Calif.-based Hewlett-Packard (HWP: Research, Estimates) sued Xerox regarding printing chips that used HP technology for Xerox DocuPrint NC60 color laser printers.
On Friday, HP closed up 6 to 139 and Xerox inched up 3/16 to 25-13/16.
