NEW YORK (CNNfn) - If you are looking for an investment that is more diverse than an individual stock and cheaper and more flexible than a traditional index mutual fund, you might want to consider an exchange traded fund.

Essentially, they take all the stocks within an index, bundle them up and let you buy and sell them as one, just like an individual stock.
