Children's products maker says some infants injured when walker collapses
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Graco Children's Products Inc. is offering free repair kits for about 31,000 Tot Wheels Entertainer Activity Center infant walkers because they can collapse unexpectedly during use and injure infants.
Graco, based in Elverston, Pa., has received 27 reports of the walkers collapsing. Injuries to infants have included a bump on the head, a sprained foot, a cut toe, and various scrapes and bruises.
The recalled Tot Wheels Entertainer Activity Center infant walkers, with "bouncing action" and five-position height adjustment, have model numbers 4032LN or 4032BLA, located underneath the front of the walker's tray.
The walkers sold at discount department and juvenile products stores, including Wal-Mart and Toys "R" Us, from September 1999 through February 2000 at a cost of about $50.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission should stop using these walkers immediately, and call Graco for a free repair kit at (800) 345-4109, 24 hours a day. Consumers also can visit the Graco web site.
Similar Graco products also have green play trays and print seats. Only walkers with model number 4032LN and 4032BLA are part of this recall.
Graco is a unit of Newell Rubbermaid Inc. (NWL: Research, Estimates). Its shares rose 3/16 to 25-15/16 in Thursday morning trading.
