NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Market strategists and sector analysts reviewed stocks in the financial, energy and biotechnology sectors Wednesday, recommending companies such as Citigroup and Human Genome Sciences.

While the markets moved in opposite directions by midday trading, recent guests on CNNfn commented on the stocks they are buying and why.

graphic"One on the smaller end of the spectrum which has been a bit of a troubled issue recently: It's CIT  (CIT: Research, Estimates), a financial. This is a company that is involved in business finance unlike Associates, which is more in the consumer finance area. Stock's a mid-teenager. I think that this is a company that could see its shares appreciate by 50-to-100 percent over the next two years if they get through this next patch relatively unscathed. On the other end of the spectrum, I like Citigroup (C: Research, Estimates). This is a company that seems to be doing most everything right these days," said Charles Crane, market strategist for Spears Benzak Salomon & Farrell.

"Rowan Cos. (RDC: Research, Estimates) is one of the leading drilling companies. There's more earnings leverage to the oil story in the drillers than in any other part of whole energy space. And I think this is a stock that has a fairly bright 12-month future," Crane said.

" graphicIt's fundamentals. We have got more visibility on the nature of Human Genome Sciences'  (HGSI: Research, Estimates) pipeline of really interesting drugs that they've been developing out of their genomics effort. And we have -- we think there will be a some good news flow coming from the company out of this," said Joe Dougherty, senior biotechnology analyst at Lehman Brothers.

"In the old days, the biotechs really used to trade together and I think for a while there, people were differentiating among them more. I think with a lot of new investors in the space more recently, we have seen them begin to trade as a group again. I think that's a mistake, because the fortunes of one company are not the fortunes of another. The group as a whole I think is on the rich side, but the market has been -- the market has been ignoring that concern for quite a while," Dougherty said.
