NEW YORK (CNNfn) - DuPont Co. reported fourth-quarter earnings Wednesday that fell from a year earlier but came in slightly above analysts' forecasts and warned of continued weakness in the first half of 2001.
The Wilmington, Del.-based chemical company earned 47 cents a diluted share in the quarter, down from 55 cents a year earlier. Analysts surveyed by First Call expected the company to earn 46 cents a share.
The company also warned that the "challenging economic condition" experienced in the second half of 2000 will continue through the first six months of this year, adding that it is speeding up efforts to manage costs.
DuPont (DD: Research, Estimates) shares fell 25 cents to $42.06 Tuesday.
