NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Sony Music Entertainment and Vivendi's Universal Music Group have dubbed their new on-demand subscription music joint-venture as pressplay, and picked two executives from Universal to lead the effort.
Andy Schuon is the new president and chief executive of the service, which is expected to start operations this summer, and Michael Bebel is to be chief operating officer.
Schuon, a veteran of MTV and Warner Brothers Records, most recently served as president and chief operating officer of Jimmy and Doug's Farmclub.com, an online music site and record label owned by Universal Music.
Bebel has been executive vice president for business development and strategic planning for Universal Music Group's eLabs since 1998.
The joint venture, previously called Duet, was announced in May, 2000. It is developing a subscription-based service that offer Web users various music offerings from both their own and other record labels on a non-exclusive basis.
