NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Leading hotel and online travel companies lost nearly $8 billion in market capitalization on Monday as investors dumped shares on concerns about a looming slump in business and leisure travel following last week's terrorist attacks.

Airlines, automakers and insurers were also hit hard, and shares of gaming companies were down sharply, amid uncertainty about the future of the leisure travel industry.

But shares of companies that make security devices rose as much as 100 percent as U.S. airports and institutions plan to bolster their on-site security.

Aerospace and defense

Defense contractors and military electronics systems makers were mixed.
