NEW YORK (CNNmoney) - U.S. technology stocks rose in early trading Monday, with semiconductor makers leading the way for the rebounding Nasdaq composite index.
At 10:05 a.m. ET, the Nasdaq was up 21.15 at 1,692.46. The Dow Jones industrial average was higher, although not as broadly, gaining 55.57 to 9,259.68. The Standard & Poor's 500 rose 3.66 to 1,077.14.
Investors were trying to sort through a continuing wave of September quarter corporate results and the latest developments in Afghanistan, where U.S. military aircraft was reported to be hitting new Taliban targets. Also on investors' mind was the anthrax scare, particularly after a Washington, D.C., postal worker was found to have contracted the virulent inhaled version of the disease.
