NEW YORK (CNN/Money) -
Weyerhaeuser Co. slashed its estimates for third-quarter earnings Tuesday, citing problems at its wood-products division, costs associated with absorbing Willamette Industries and more.
The Tacoma, Wash.-based forest products maker said it expects to earn between 5 and 10 cents per share in the third quarter. Wall Street analysts, on average, expected Weyerhaeuser to earn 35 cents per share, according to earnings tracker First Call.
Weyerhaeuser said it cut its estimate due to a loss in its wood products unit due to falling prices and the effects of a duty it pays for softwood lumber it imports from Canada.
Other factors driving profit down included the cost of business disruptions at its Plymouth, N.C., paper facility and costs associated with the integration of Willamette Industries, which it purchased this year for more than $6 billion.
Weyerhaeuser (WY: Research, Estimates) shares fell 12 cents Monday to close at $49.73.
