NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - For parents eager to pull out all the stops for their kids' holiday gifts this year, there are a slew of hard-to-find pricey toys that run the gamut from cute and kitschy to blatantly outrageous.
At Chicago-based retailer Hammacher Schlemmer, the hottest picks of unique playthings where money is no object, include a $2,500 Route 66 Gumball Machine, a human lawn-bowling game costing close to $6,000, and a $15,000 "levitating" Hover Scooter that supposedly transports the rider across land on a cushion of air.
Meanwhile, the "2003 Ultimate Toy Catalogue" from toy retailer FAO Schwarz features a holiday collection of expensive spoils such as a $15,000 Lego life-size model of NBA superstars Jason Kidd and Alan Houston and a $30,000 gasoline-powered off-roader vehicle, designed to give kids "their first driving experience."
"These are lavish toys but they're also a lot of fun for both kids and adults," said Hammacher Schlemmer spokeswoman Sabrina Balthazar.
